Military Aircraft Helmet

The Problem

Congress required the client to continue production of their military aircraft helmet through the year 2040, per a contract they have with the US Airforce for the F15, F16 and F18. The helmet is used by the military domestically and by American allies.

Unfortunately, the LabVIEW code was written over 25 years ago, so the client approached JET to work with them to modernize the code to perform with modern equipment and peripherals
(cameras, etc.). They also wanted to be able to merge the old and new code in
order to increase their production and make sure the test systems made it to
the end of their 2040 lifecycle.

The Solution

To modernize the helmet, JET was
asked to update the existing test system
to interface with new hardware for
military aviation, within the confines of
the original test structure and
requirements. Within the test system,
JET integrated new devices and ensured the code could operate on the newest Window Operating Systems. There was also re-architecting for the sake of longevity, maintenance, device
management and drivers.

The Outcome

JET developed interfaces for all new
devices connected with the test system
and verified them to ensure compatibility. JET ensured the test system will be viable thru the end of production lifecycle and was up to date with modern SW engineering security systems.

JET tested the new test system for
applicable aircraft helmets and was able
to demonstrate successfully for the
client. The software interfaced with
LabVIEW, C++, Photometrics and with
other software in a seamless fashion.
The helmet didn’t have any changes
which ensured the test process for
helmet manufacturing stayed up to date.
